The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) is expanding cooperation on next-generation mobile technology and business with Vietnam's mobile operator Viettel.

TTA said on Wednesday it held a 'B5G and 6G standards technology business exchange event and workshop' with Viettel Group in Hanoi over two days from Aug. 4.

The event was arranged to support opportunities for South Korean companies with next-generation mobile equipment and solutions to build a business network with Viettel and enter the Vietnam market.

Participants included TTA, the 6G Forum and the GSMA, as well as South Korean network equipment and solution companies including LIG Acuver, SOLiD, UCAST and Wizcore. The South Korean companies demonstrated locally tailored technologies and held export consultations with Viettel. The chair of Viettel High Tech and the group’s chief technology officer attended, along with executives from affiliates including Viettel AI and the GSMA’s regional head for Asia-Pacific.

Participating companies showcased 3GPP-based equipment and services including a video quality test solution, a distributed antenna system (DAS), a backpack-type mobile 5G base station and a 5G private network-based manufacturing digital transformation (DX) solution.

TTA also held a '5G-Advanced (5G-A) and 6G standards technology exchange workshop' to respond to demand to strengthen Vietnam’s standardisation capabilities. It shared the status of 5G-A commercialisation, a roadmap for Vietnam’s first pilot service, research and development trends in AI-based radio access networks (AI-RAN) and TTA’s experience in international standardisation activities. It also discussed cooperation measures for joint development of international standards and commercialisation of related products.

Nguyen Minh Quang (응우옌 민 꽝), chair of Viettel High Tech, said, "For Viettel preparing for the 6G era, South Korea’s equipment and solutions that lead global standards will become a key driving force for infrastructure innovation." He added, "We will expand business cooperation with South Korean companies and actively 추진 the introduction of technologies."

Son Seung-hyun (손승현), chair of TTA, said, "International standards are a core foundation that links our companies’ technological competitiveness to competitiveness in the global market." He added, "We hope the Korea-Vietnam cooperation network will serve as a catalyst for South Korean companies’ entry into the Southeast Asian market and for expanded cooperation on 6G international standardisation."
