The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on Thursday it has been designated as a CE certified testing laboratory (NBTL) by Nemko Group, an EU CE certification body.

The designation is a decision aimed at responding to the European Union's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), which will be fully applied from December 2027. The CRA is a system that applies cybersecurity requirements from the design stage to digital products launched on the European market and requires conformity assessment during the CE marking process.

Korean companies have had to consult directly with overseas certification bodies to obtain CE certification reflecting CRA requirements. For some key digital products, conformity assessment by a European CE certification body is mandatory, creating heavy cost and time burdens for small and medium-sized companies.

With the NBTL designation, TTA can directly conduct CE certification tests for Korean companies' digital products. It also said it has laid the groundwork to support CE certification procedures in Korea through cooperation with European CE certification bodies.

TTA said it plans to secure the capability to evaluate key security requirements required by the CRA, based on cybersecurity testing experience and infrastructure accumulated through operating a specialised information security certification testing body. TTA and Nemko Korea will also pursue follow-up cooperation, including expanding testing areas, holding joint technical seminars for Korean companies and providing certification consulting.

TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "The EU Cyber Resilience Act will in effect serve as an essential gateway for exporting digital products," adding, "We will actively support testing and certification capabilities so Korean companies can respond quickly to global regulations and secure competitiveness in the European market."

Nemko Korea CEO Seung-in Yang (양승인) said, "By combining TTA's cybersecurity testing experience with Nemko Group's global testing and certification network, we have built a foundation to support Korean companies' entry into the European market."

TTA also held a '2026 Global Cybersecurity Regulation Response Seminar' on Thursday. About 150 people from about 50 companies, including Korean electronics and telecommunications firms, attended.
