South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT held a workshop on Sept. 18 at the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), attended by about 200 International Telecommunication Union (ITU) international standardisation experts. The event was titled the “Korea ITU Research Committee ITU International Standardisation Achievements Sharing Workshop.”

In the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), participants discussed key trends including 6G mobile communications and satellite IMT-2030. In the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T), the workshop introduced standardisation achievements in digital technologies such as physical AI security and Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). In the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D), participants shared trends in international telecommunications policy and development cooperation, including cases of support for developing countries related to AI and research on cybersecurity policy and best practices.

At a meeting of ITU international chair groups held ahead of the workshop, South Korea’s international chair group introduced major pending issues in each sector and the status of preparations for international meetings. Cooperation agendas and support measures at the Korea ITU Research Committee level were also discussed.

Participants presented views that South Korea should lead ITU international standards and strengthen communication and cooperation among sectors to spread standardisation achievements.

Chang-rim Jeong (정창림), head of the National Radio Research Agency, said the workshop was a forum to share South Korea’s ITU international standardisation achievements and discuss strategic response measures for future ITU activities. He said the agency would continue working to strengthen inter-sector cooperation and lead ICT international standardisation.
