Park In-kyu holds talks with young aerospace researchers on the ground
Park In-kyu (박인규), head of the Science and Technology Innovation Office at South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, held a meeting on Tuesday with aerospace-related graduate students at Gyeongsang National University. The session sought on-site views on research and career paths, regional settlement and ways to develop the industrial ecosystem in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province. Participants discussed investment direction, joint research and infrastructure, research stipends and working conditions, and local jobs and startups.

MSIT sets 2027 budget at 29.6 trillion won, with 9.4 trillion won for AI
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT proposed a 2027 budget of 29.6 trillion won, up 24.5 percent from this year’s supplementary budget. AI spending would rise 84.3 percent to 9.4 trillion won, while R&D funding would increase 18.5 percent to 14.1 trillion won. The ministry plans investments in semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centres, expansion of GPU capacity for independent AI models, AI services and inclusion programmes, and funding for advanced technologies including quantum, biotech and space.

South Korea has drafted a 2027 government research and development budget of 39.5 trillion won, up 11.2 percent from this year. It plans to increase investment in strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum and space aviation, and to allocate a record 3.3 trillion won to new projects. Major R&D funds allocated and coordinated by the science ministry total 33.8 trillion won, up 11.5 percent.
