Ku Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, met young researchers to discuss ways to improve the research environment.

The ministry said Ku met youth aides and the third group of its 2030 Youth Advisory Panel in Seoul on Oct. 2 and exchanged views on the current state of the science and technology community and future development directions.

The meeting included a report on the advisory panel's activities, presentations of field cases and a policy discussion. Two doctoral-level researchers on the panel shared difficulties during their degree programmes and challenges after earning doctoral degrees. The policy discussion mainly covered creating an R&D environment that does not fear failure and building a stable research environment by improving the treatment of graduate students.

Ku said he would carefully review the views proposed in the field so they can be reflected in actual policy. He said the government would continue to spare no investment in nurturing and helping science and technology talent grow.
