Science ministry seeks universities for stipend programme for science and engineering graduate students
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on June 11 it will accept applications through June 20 from universities seeking to join its science and engineering graduate stipend programme in the second half of this year. The programme links government support to student stipends paid through university research and development projects and guarantees at least 800,000 won a month for master’s students and 1.1 million won for doctoral students. The ministry said 43 universities have joined so far, benefiting about 52,000 graduate students.

Vice PM Bae holds talks in Belgium with EU on AI, science and technology cooperation
South Korea\'s Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyeong-hoon (배경훈) met a European Union executive commissioner in Brussels to discuss ways to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence and science and technology, the science ministry said. He accompanied President Lee Jae-myung on a state visit to Belgium and the EU. Bae also met Korean researchers at IMEC and discussed Horizon Europe participation, joint research in AI-driven innovation, advanced biotech and quantum technology, and wider researcher exchanges.

MSIT launches support programme to build university research security management systems
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT will launch a support programme to strengthen research security capabilities at universities. The ministry held a briefing on June 5 and outlined plans to help universities establish their own research security management systems and sustainable operating foundations. The programme will run from July 2026 to December 2028, selecting eight universities and providing up to about 500 million won per university annually, with lower support this year.
