Ku Hyeok-chae (구혁채), first vice minister at the Ministry of Science and ICT, met middle school students participating in the AI team of the 'Youth Science Expedition' at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) on Wednesday. They exchanged views on future science and technology.
The Youth Science Expedition is a program that supports teenagers as they visit research institutes, companies and university research sites to experience science and engineering career paths. This year, 102 people participated across three teams, including AI, bio, and space and aviation.
Ku heard from 34 middle school students in the AI team about their experience in scientific inquiry activities using generative AI. They discussed how AI technology could change future society, new jobs that may emerge, and how to prepare for career paths.
Ku said that in an AI era in which Korean AI models are used across industrial sites, students will have more opportunities to pursue their dreams in various science and technology fields. He said he would continue to expand opportunities for teenagers to explore career paths so they can grow into future science and technology professionals.
