KT is moving to build AI use skills and digital ethics awareness among middle school students in Busan.
KT said on Aug. 28 it worked with the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Korea Press Foundation to provide hands-on AI capability and ethics education for students at Busan Arts Middle School on Aug. 27.
The education focused on building basic literacy so students can take the lead in using AI in the artistic creation process. Reflecting the trend of AI being used in artistic creation, it was organised as an arts-and-technology convergence programme tailored to the school’s characteristics.
Members of KT’s university student IT supporters group (KIT) ran participatory programmes starting with AI ethics education, followed by a generative AI experience, board games and team missions. Students learned ways to use AI properly. They also took part in mentoring to share concerns about learning and interpersonal relationships with university student mentors.
KIT is an IT education volunteer group made up of science and engineering university students selected and fostered by KT and the KT Group Hope Sharing Foundation. In July, it worked with the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education to provide AI education and mentoring for 155 middle and high school students in Daecheong and Baengnyeong in the five West Sea islands.
KT also operated a mobile AI experience centre called the "KT AI Station". Students experienced related technologies such as a generative AI studio and an AI human, and strengthened their AI use capabilities through digital ethics content such as identifying deepfakes and fake news.
In the afternoon, students watched "JumpXCut", a media literacy educational play developed by the Korea Press Foundation. The play uses incidents involving teenagers that occur in the media environment as its subject matter. After watching, students took part in discussions that taught media literacy to distinguish fact from fiction.
KT has been working with the Korea Press Foundation since 2023 to support AI ethics and digital citizenship education for elementary, middle and high school students. In the first half of this year, it supported education at 349 schools in cooperation with 8 education offices nationwide.
