OpenAI prepares inference residency in South Korea, in talks with local partners to secure GPUs
OpenAI is preparing to introduce “inference residency” in South Korea so Korean users’ AI inference computing is handled at domestic data centres. OpenAI Korea chief Kim Kyung-hoon said the company is discussing securing GPUs and cloud infrastructure with several local partners and expects to offer the service in the near term. OpenAI already supports data residency in Korea, but some data can move overseas during inference.

OpenAI held a media demo in Seoul to introduce ChatGPT Work features and real-world applications. A newsroom executive described using Codex to streamline paid PDF book production, while an academic detailed splitting research reporting into multiple agents and skills. OpenAI also demonstrated journalist-focused workflows and cited user growth after ChatGPT Work launched.

BKL Taepyungyang adopts OpenAI ChatGPT Enterprise companywide
OpenAI said on Tuesday that South Korean law firm BKL Taepyungyang has introduced ChatGPT Enterprise for all employees from Aug. 1. The firm plans to use ChatGPT Enterprise and its work-focused feature, ChatGPT Work, for legal research, drafting documents, large-scale data analysis and summarisation, reviewing foreign laws and regulatory materials, and generating ideas. It also adopted the legal AI service Harvey and will run a two-track system.
