OpenAI said on Sunday it will supply ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to help Samsung Electronics employees innovate at work and drive a companywide AI transformation (AX).
The rollout will cover all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea and all employees worldwide in its Device eXperience (DX) division. The company said it is one of the largest deployments among OpenAI Enterprise contracts.
Samsung Electronics plans to use ChatGPT and Codex across its work, including software development, marketing, product development and manufacturing. Codex was launched as a software development tool, but has since expanded into a platform that can also be used for general work.
ChatGPT Enterprise supports knowledge-based tasks such as information search and analysis, document drafting and data interpretation. It also provides enterprise features such as data protection, access-rights management and security controls. Codex can raise developer productivity through code writing, review and debugging, and can also be used by non-developers to turn ideas into software, internal tools and automated processes.
OpenAI said more than 5 million people use Codex every week for technical and non-technical work. Weekly active Codex users in South Korea have risen by nearly 800 percent since Feb. 1, 2026.
Jason Kwon (김경훈), head of OpenAI Korea, said it is meaningful that Samsung Electronics is using AI as a core platform to raise working methods and innovation capacity for employees worldwide, rather than in a limited number of organisations. He said OpenAI will work with Samsung Electronics to help employees execute ideas quickly and solve complex problems with ChatGPT.
Earlier, OpenAI and Samsung Electronics had also worked together on supplying memory semiconductors needed to build next-generation AI infrastructure. With this deployment, their cooperation has expanded from AI infrastructure to work innovation and companywide AI transformation.
Seoul National University also recently began offering ChatGPT Edu for free to 47,000 members, including students, staff and faculty. Kakao introduced a ChatGPT question-and-answer feature in KakaoTalk group chats. Others using ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API and Codex include LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, GS E&C, Samsung SDS, TVING, Krafton, Toss, Musinsa, Korea Zinc, Nexen Tire and HanaTour.
