Retail SSD market is almost over, Silicon Motion executive says, as AI shifts supply
The retail solid-state drive market has effectively shrunk sharply in the first half of this year, an industry assessment showed. Silicon Motion Vice President Nelson Duan said the retail SSD market has almost disappeared, as end demand for the company’s SSD controllers shifts from retail products to OEM products for PC makers. He linked the change to NAND flash suppliers allocating more output to data-centre products amid the AI boom.

Synology unveils new products from NAS to AI agents at Computex 2026
Synology took part in Computex 2026 in Taipei from June 2 to 5, rolling out new products spanning data storage, protection and AI solutions. It showcased XS+/XS and FS enterprise storage, the PAS7700 active-active all-flash NVMe system and the GS3400 scalable object and file storage. Synology also introduced Synology Tiering and new data reduction features, and unveiled AI solutions including a DSM Agent. It added platform support in data protection and expanded its cameras and home lineup.

Synology announces active-active NVMe enterprise storage PAS7700
Synology said on Monday it has launched the PAS7700, an active-active all-flash NVMe enterprise storage system. Active-active storage keeps two or more storage systems running to handle read and write operations at the same time and synchronise data in real time. The company said the PAS7700 supports up to 1.65PB of raw capacity with expansion units and provides up to 2 million IOPS and up to 30GB per second throughput.
