Dell Technologies said on Jan. 15 it is introducing new Dell PowerStore products that increase capacity density to improve cost efficiency while strengthening cybersecurity and simplifying operations.

The company said it added QLC (quad-level cell) models to the Dell PowerStore storage lineup based on an improved software architecture, bringing cost-efficient QLC to enterprise-grade storage. Early QLC storage required certain trade-offs in performance, cost and reliability, but the new products address those issues, Dell said.

Customers adopting PowerStore QLC models can use the same NVMe-based high-speed performance as TLC (triple-level cell) models, sub-millisecond latency and always-on data reduction. They can also achieve up to a 15 percent reduction in total cost of ownership, the company said.

Dell Technologies added a 30TB QLC drive model in this release to reduce physical footprint while improving data storage efficiency. The system can store up to 2PBe of data in a 2U rack space, which doubles capacity per rack unit and improves power efficiency by up to 23 percent, the company said.

Dell added a new set of features to PowerStore always-on cybersecurity to support security strategies. Through the latest software release distributed free of charge, it provides Fibre Channel (FC)-based synchronous replication for block workloads and FC-based asynchronous replication for file systems.

The company said this eliminates data loss, minimizes recovery time for critical data and simplifies disaster recovery.

Kim Kyung-jin, managing director of Dell Technologies Korea, said, "As the pace of change accelerates, a data center infrastructure strategy is needed that prepares for both current and future environments. Dell plans to support customers in improving business agility with PowerStore, which has strong security and simplified file operations."
