[DigitalToday reporter Suk Dae-geon] Sandisk unveiled next-generation portable SSDs and new products using a new brand structure, overhauling its consumer storage lineup. One portable SSD delivers transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and can move 10 minutes of 12K video in under 1 minute.
Sandisk held a press briefing on May 19 to unveil new consumer storage products. The lineup is segmented by user group, ranging from general users to professional creators, gamers and sports fans. It includes three pocket-sized portable SSDs, three internal SSDs under the new brand system "SANDISK Optimus," and an official World Cup licensed collection.
Susan Park (수잔 박), vice president of Sandisk's consumer products division, said the briefing showcases Sandisk's latest product innovations, from pocket-sized portable SSDs to high-performance internal SSDs. She said Sandisk will meet all storage needs whether users are on the move, working on a PC, gaming or doing team tasks.
The portable SSD lineup includes three models: SANDISK portable SSD, SANDISK Extreme portable SSD, and SANDISK Extreme PRO portable SSD. The top-end Extreme PRO offers transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB/s and can transfer about 10 minutes of 12K video in under 1 minute. Aimed at real-time editing and multi-stream workflows for professional photographers and video creators, the 2TB and 4TB models will launch first, with an 8TB model to be added.
The Extreme model provides read speeds of up to 2,000MB/s and can transfer 1,000 high-resolution photos in under 60 seconds. It targets creators handling large files and photo and video enthusiasts, and comes in capacities from 1TB to 4TB. The SANDISK portable SSD for general users has read speeds of up to 1,000MB/s and addresses file backup and content storage demand from students and office workers. The Extreme and Extreme PRO models come with a five-year limited warranty, while the standard model comes with a three-year limited warranty.
◆Internal SSDs unified under 'SANDISK Optimus'... three-tier performance rating system
Sandisk has reorganised its flagship internal SSD lineup under the "SANDISK Optimus" brand, as announced at CES 2026. It divided the lineup into three tiers so gamers, creators and professionals can easily gauge performance: the standard model (Optimus), gaming-focused model (Optimus GX), and top-end professional model (Optimus GX PRO).
The standard model focuses on balancing performance and price, while the gaming-focused model targets gamers seeking fast load times, expanded storage capacity and power efficiency. The top lineup, the SANDISK Optimus GX PRO 8100 NVMe SSD, targets developers, professionals and high-end gamers by combining advanced storage technology with expanded capacity.
The newly unveiled products will be released sequentially through major domestic online and offline distribution channels, and recommended retail prices for each product will be disclosed later.
Shim Young-chul (심영철), head of Sandisk Korea, said demand for consumer storage continues to evolve in an era led by AI, content creation and gaming. He said Sandisk's innovative portfolio is designed to help users across fields easily find products that fit their needs and enhance the user experience so they can focus fully on the task or game at hand.
