Tesla FSD v14 drives too well, raising safety concerns over reduced driver vigilance
Tesla’s latest driver-assistance system, Full Self-Driving (FSD) v14, shows marked performance gains but may create new safety risks by lowering driver vigilance, analysts say. As a Level 2 system, it still requires constant monitoring and readiness to intervene. Some drivers report difficulty staying alert after hundreds of miles without intervention. Researchers cite “vigilance decrement” and studies suggesting 5 to 8 seconds to refocus when retaking control.

Tesla FSD safety claims questioned; some internal AI staff say they do not trust it
A Reuters review found Tesla’s promoted safety statistics for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system were based on a comparison using different crash measures. Researchers and former Tesla staff interviewed were sceptical of claims that FSD is up to 10 times safer than human drivers. Some former data labelers and an autonomy engineer said they would not trust the system. The review also cited reports of testing and mapping practices and growing regulatory scrutiny.

Tesla discloses details of 17 robotaxi test crashes, including collision during remote operation
Tesla has disclosed for the first time details of 17 self-driving test crash reports it previously filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The incidents occurred during robotaxi trial operations in Austin, Texas, from July 2025 to March 2026, involving 2026 Model Y vehicles with autonomy active and a safety monitor aboard. Most resulted only in property damage, though several involved minor injuries. Two crashes occurred after a remote driver took control following requests for assistance.
