LG Electronics joins South Korea partners to restore marine ecosystems
LG Electronics will use functional new materials to help restore marine ecosystems. The company said it signed an agreement with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, South Gyeongsang province and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency to create seaweed forests off Deokmyeong-ri in Goseong county from 2026 to 2029. The project will apply LG Marine Balance, which releases mineral ions in water. LG also said it has proprietary control technology and is expanding production capacity.

South Korea runs joint drill to check response to GPS jamming
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT conducted a simulated drill on Aug. 19 to check joint civil, government and military readiness for GPS signal jamming during the 2026 Ulchi exercise period. The scenario assumed simultaneous jamming at two sites in Paju and a moving jammer, including one approaching a key national energy facility. Authorities reviewed initial response steps, dispatched tracking and strike teams, and implemented safety measures for aviation, maritime and telecom services.

Marine battery data hub buildout accelerates, push to meet international standards
South Korea is moving to build a national data infrastructure for marine batteries, aiming to strengthen competitiveness and respond to international standards. Korea Electronics Technology Institute said it held a kickoff meeting for a project to develop a marine battery data hub platform. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is 추진ing the project, supported by the Korea Institute of Marine Science & Technology Promotion. The five-year programme runs from 2026 to 2030 with 25 billion won in funding, backed by South Jeolla Province and Yeosu City.
