South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting on Monday afternoon to share the status of its "Emergency Response Research for Public Safety" programme and discuss future plans.

The programme seeks ways to quickly resolve disaster and safety issues that threaten daily life through science and technology. It aims to apply research results in the field to prevent recurrence.

The event, held at Myeongdong Community Masil, featured prototype displays and interim progress presentations for 10 research projects developing products and services to address public life issues. These included a new drug identification kit and a wildfire suppression vehicle for relay water supply, both selected in 2025.

Demand-side agencies by technology area, including the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Forest Service, also took part directly to convey requirements for future field application. Experts such as venture capital firms provided tailored advice to support the programme's characteristics on an individual basis.

Oh Dae-hyun (오대현), director general for future strategy and technology policy at the ministry, said the ministry would continue active communication to develop technologies reflecting on-site demand. He added it would provide broad, proactive support to create changes the public can feel.
