South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT received an excellent rating across all categories in the government performance review.

The Office for Government Policy Coordination on Monday announced the "2025 Government Performance Review Results" reported at a Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee Jae-myung (이재명). The review assessed the performance of 47 central administrative agencies in four categories: key policies, regulatory rationalisation, government innovation and policy communication, reflecting the policy direction of the Lee administration since its launch.

To ensure objectivity and fairness, 210 private-sector experts took part in the evaluation across all categories. The results also reflected a public satisfaction survey of 49,408 people.

The ministry was rated an excellent institution in all four categories. In the key policies category, it received high marks for laying the groundwork for a leap toward becoming an AI powerhouse and for building a foundation to foster advanced strategic industries. In the government innovation category, it was rated excellent after opening call consultation data related to spam, hacking and phishing in response to private-sector demand. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries was also rated excellent in all categories.

The policy coordination office said institutions that actively pursued visible outcomes the public can feel, regulatory rationalisation to revitalise the economy and address people’s livelihoods, greater government efficiency by improving administrative services and ways of working, and sharing and communication of policies with the public received excellent ratings.

The office plans to disclose the results to the public and to continue managing follow-up so related policies can be improved. Performance by category and items needing improvement and supplementation will be made public through the Government Performance Evaluation Committee website and other channels. Agencies with excellent results will receive prize money under the Framework Act on Government Performance Evaluation, and awards for meritorious contributors will also be given separately.
