Tesla's battery strategy is drawing mixed reactions between performance gains and exposed limits. Driving range fell more than expected in vehicles using its 4680 batteries. A patent for a new cooling technology to boost efficiency without increasing battery capacity has also been disclosed.

As it pushes both battery in-house production and efficiency innovation, real-world performance verification appears to be emerging as a key task.

Tesla's electric truck Semi is expanding its presence in the commercial vehicle market on performance and economics. As savings in operating costs versus diesel trucks are highlighted, interest from large logistics companies is continuing and appears to be changing the competitive landscape for electric trucks.

As battery capacities for the long-range and standard models are also being specified, analysis says Tesla is accelerating its push into the commercial electric truck market.

As competition in the EV market intensifies, changes are also emerging in automakers' in-house strategies. Porsche is closing three affiliates related to batteries, e-bikes and software. It is shifting to sourcing EV batteries externally as it accelerates cost efficiency and business restructuring.

Honda is also putting on hold plans to build an $11 billion electric vehicle and battery production hub in Ontario, Canada, effectively withdrawing its North American electrification strategy.

In Japan, a low-cost drone made of corrugated cardboard, the Air Kamui 150, is drawing attention. The aircraft is a lightweight fixed-wing drone that uses waterproof-coated corrugated cardboard as its main material. The unit price is about $2,000 to $2,500. With electric propulsion, it can fly about 50 miles or stay aloft for about 80 minutes. It can carry up to 3 pounds of payload and be used for one-time attack missions fitted with reconnaissance equipment or small munitions.
