Trump says no alternative to coal as White House plans $700 million to revive industry
The White House is reportedly planning to inject $700 million in additional public funds to support the U.S. coal-fired power industry, including restarting shuttered plants and building new coal plants. The plan, to be approved under the Defense Production Act, includes support for 13 existing plants and construction of two new facilities in Alaska and West Virginia. Hyundai Motor\'s electric SUV Ioniq 5 recorded a lower total cost than a gasoline SUV on a long-distance trip in New York using only public fast charging, an analysis showed. InsideEVs said the 560-mile round trip from New York City cost $620 including rental, charging and tolls. A gasoline SUV topped $750, while a hybrid crossover exceeded $700. The test used an older AWD model with a 77 kWh battery and a CCS port.

Google plans release of 32 million AI-selected mosquitoes in Florida to test disease control
Google is seeking to conduct large-scale field trials in Florida using male mosquitoes carrying Wolbachia bacteria, selected with AI and automation, to reduce mosquito populations and curb the spread of diseases such as West Nile virus. Public EPA documents show its Debug project applied to release up to 32 million Wolbachia-treated male house mosquitoes in Florida and 32 million in California, with Florida releases split over two years. Public comments run until June 5.
