Korean outsourced content production costs fall below 1 trillion won as Netflix influence grows
Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communication Commission and the Korea Information Society Development Institute released a 2025 assessment of competition in the broadcasting market. Total broadcaster revenue declined for a second straight year. Pay-TV subscribers were little changed and revenue growth remained muted, while IPTV affiliates increased their share. Broadcaster outsourcing spending fell 2.2 percent to 987.8 billion won, dropping below 1 trillion won, as in-house production increased and orders to independent producers fell.

South Korea, Canada sign audiovisual content co-production agreement
South Korea’s Broadcasting Media Communication Commission and Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage signed an agreement on cooperation in audiovisual co-productions at a ceremony in Ottawa on April 22, the commission said on Wednesday. The deal is designed to support bilateral cooperation in broadcasting programmes such as dramas and documentaries and in audiovisual content including films and animation. South Korea has completed its domestic ratification procedures, while Canada expects to finish ratification this fall.

Bamitongwi to hold K-drama investment pitch at Cannes International Series Festival
The Broadcasting Media Communication Commission, known as Bamitongwi, and the Korea Communications Agency will take part in the 9th Cannes International Series Festival in Cannes from April 23 to 28. They will hold an investment presentation and screenings to support the overseas expansion of Korean broadcast content. Four works will join the pitch event on April 23, while three titles will be screened on April 24 with five actors attending.
