The Broadcasting Media Communication Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency said on Tuesday they have published for the first time a casebook titled "Key Violation Cases of the Location Information Act" to help location information businesses improve their ability to comply with regulations.

The casebook organises frequently violated cases into four categories, based on the results of administrative sanctions from annual inspections of businesses. They include changes to registration or reporting by location information service providers; suspension or closure of business, transfers and mergers; terms of use and personal location information handling policies; administrative and technical protective measures for location information; and destruction of personal location information, areas that businesses may overlook or easily make mistakes on.

The commission expected the casebook to help improve businesses' understanding of the law and compliance, and to strengthen protective measures for location information, as services using location information become more advanced and the importance of protecting personal location information grows.

The commission plans to hold a related briefing on March 4 and distribute the casebook on site to attending businesses.
