U.S. road safety agency targets Tesla Cybercab, seeks basis for selling no-steering-wheel, no-pedal vehicle

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has formally demanded that Tesla demonstrate the legality of selling and operating its autonomous-only Cybercab service. The agency issued a special order seeking sworn statements on whether the vehicle, which lacks a steering wheel, pedals and side mirrors, meets federal motor vehicle safety standards. Tesla must respond by Sept. 30 or face possible penalties of up to $139 million. NHTSA is also scrutinising exemptions and potential use of temporary controls.

South Korea, UAE to expand cooperation on digital and advanced technology investment

South Korea will expand investment and industrial cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in digital and advanced technology, the government said. Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung attended the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum Seoul 2026 in Seoul and expressed a commitment to broaden cooperation. The forum discussed collaboration in future industries such as AI, robotics and advanced manufacturing. Seven memorandums of understanding were signed between Abu Dhabi agencies and South Korean companies.

Kakao Mobility and RideFlux are building maps and operations and collecting difficult scenario data through commercial runs.
