Samsung, LG Electronics declare 'invitation to AI living' at CES
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics presented their visions for AI in daily life at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Samsung set out an “AI companion” strategy across entertainment, home and care, and demonstrated a TV-only AI platform while detailing plans for SmartThings, security and interfaces. LG unveiled its Affectionate Intelligence concept and showcased connected home robots, AI appliances and AI-based in-vehicle solutions, along with its 2026 TV lineup and Gallery+ content service.

Lablup joins CES, unveils Backend.AI:GO to run LLMs on PCs without cloud
AI infrastructure platform company Lablup will participate in CES 2026 in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 to 9 for a fourth consecutive year. At the event, it will officially launch Backend.AI:GO, a desktop application that runs a small language model directly on a personal computer without cloud servers. The company said the app works offline after downloading models and does not send user input to external servers. It also plans to launch Backend.AI:DOL.

PIPC orders ban on contact with external stakeholders in key investigations and lawsuits
South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission said on Jan. 5 it sent a special letter from its chair to all staff, instructing strict performance of duties based on law and principles and the establishment of public service discipline in major pending issues, including investigations into Coupang and KT. The commission barred any private individual contact with external stakeholders that could pose conflicts of interest in cases under investigation or litigation. It also ordered stronger reporting of improper solicitation and strict information security.
