Generative AI expectations overblown for mainframe replacement, many projects seen failing
Generative AI’s role is being overly overestimated in modernisation projects pursued by large organisations aiming to phase out mainframes, some say. Gartner forecast many mainframe retirement initiatives launched in 2026 will fail to deliver expected early results, citing unrealistic expectations that AI can replace complex legacy environments quickly and reliably. It warned vendor hype could raise costs, threaten business process continuity and create long-term disruption and new technical debt.

Apple likely to name first foldable iPhone 'iPhone Ultra', rumours say
Apple may launch its first foldable iPhone this autumn and call it the iPhone Ultra, an IT outlet reported. The device is expected to be Apple’s most expensive iPhone and use a book-style inward fold with a wider internal screen. Rumours include a crease-free inner panel, two rear cameras without a telephoto lens, and two front cameras. It may run iOS 27 with enhanced multitasking and use an A20 Pro chip, C2 modem and Touch ID.

Government to introduce AI in care services, support small merchants through public AX shift
South Korea's government plans an innovation model for care services using artificial intelligence. It will also build a platform with an AI agent to help small and medium-sized enterprises and small merchants access and apply for government support programmes. The Ministry of Science and ICT held a meeting of science and technology ministers on Wednesday and confirmed plans covering AI care technology support, public-sector AX for SMEs, regional innovation growth and an upgraded R&D commercialisation system.
