NHN Dooray said on Oct. 19 it has completed building Defense Ieum, an integrated collaboration platform for the entire military based on its collaboration service Dooray, and has begun full operations.

Defense Ieum is the official collaboration platform used by about 300,000 personnel across the military, including the Ministry of National Defense, the Army, Navy and Air Force, and units directly under the ministry. It aims to improve defence administrative efficiency by integrating collaboration functions that had been dispersed across organisations and units into a single platform.

NHN Dooray has built Dooray at the Defense Integrated Data Center since late 2024 and has provided services to the ministry and some units. After preparations to expand the service to the entire military, it has now started official operations.

Defense Ieum provides key collaboration functions in a single environment, including messenger, email, project management, drive, calendar and video conferencing. Its project function allows integrated management of multiple tasks, and users can jointly edit documents through the drive. It also supports schedule sharing using the calendar and collaboration between organisations.

To secure internal military data security and control, the service was built directly on the defence network that is separated from the external network. By managing data at the Defense Integrated Data Center, it maintains control over internal military information while establishing an operating environment that allows large numbers of users to connect simultaneously.

Another feature is that it has an update system so the latest software-as-a-service features can be applied even in a built environment separated from the external network. This is intended to continuously reflect new collaboration functions and performance improvements.

It is also reviewing the introduction of AI functions. NHN Dooray plans to pursue applying Dooray AI, which supports AI-based collaboration functions and document creation including Hangul (HWP and HWPX), after consultations with the ministry. It aims to upgrade Defense Ieum from a simple collaboration tool into an intelligent work platform.

In the project, NHN Dooray handled service implementation, and systems integration specialist MTCM participated as a key partner. MTCM was in charge of project management during the build process and will also support service operations going forward.

Baek Chang-yeol (백창열), chief executive of NHN Dooray, said, "Dooray becoming the official collaboration platform used by South Korea's entire military is the result of the service stability and product competitiveness proven in the public sector coming to the fore." He said, "We will continuously reflect improvement requests from military sites and contribute to digital transformation and AI transformation (AX) in the defence sector."
