ETRI aims to develop 'director-level AI scientist' by 2035, unveils 50th anniversary vision

South Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute said it would challenge itself to develop a "director-level AI scientist" by 2035 that can autonomously carry out the full research cycle, from hypothesis setting to experiments, analysis and verification. It also unveiled an AI innovation strategy and plans to focus R&D capabilities on five areas including AI-native 6G and satellite communications, safe artificial general intelligence, immersive space media, physical AI, and public and industrial AI and digital transformation.

Inside the $400,000 helmet used by F-35 pilots

An advanced helmet used by F-35 fighter pilots is drawing attention for functions that go beyond protection. The third-generation Helmet Mounted Display System links the aircraft’s sensors to the visor to display flight and combat information and provide an augmented-reality view that can appear to see through the airframe. A 2015 U.S. Air Force estimate put the price at about $400,000 each. Development faced early technical and safety issues before improvements.

Stablecoin payment card volume tops $1 billion in August, hits records for volume, transactions and users

Stablecoin-based crypto payment cards hit monthly records in August for transaction value, number of payments and users. Payment volume reached $1.076 billion, marking a second straight month above $1 billion. Payments totalled about 10.67 million and active addresses rose to more than 283,000. RedotPay led by value and transactions. Growth was notable in emerging markets, while activity remained concentrated in a few programs and the overall market stayed small.
