Apple may unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro as early as Nov. 6, local time, 9to5Mac reported. Apple could announce the product on Oct. 27 and launch it in early November, it said.

The core of the outlook is that Apple may adopt touch input for a Mac laptop for the first time in more than 10 years. The new MacBook Pro is being discussed as a redesign model that goes beyond adding touch, with changes to the display, design and software adjustments.

On the hardware side, a tandem OLED display is seen as likely. The panel would have a structure similar to the one used in the iPad Pro, using stacked OLED to improve color reproduction, contrast and brightness. It could also include a Dynamic Island that is slightly smaller than the iPhone's, the report said. Face ID is not expected to be supported.

Software may also be revised to match touch input. In macOS 27, some related signs have already surfaced, including Sidecar touch support, a pull-down-to-refresh gesture and larger menu bar items. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the first touchscreen MacBook Pro will have "special optimization" beyond what is seen in the current beta.

The chip strategy has changed from early expectations. There had been speculation that the redesigned MacBook Pro would include M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, but a view has emerged that Apple could skip that release to accelerate the M7 schedule. That raises the likelihood that the new model will use the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max. The first chip based on a 2-nanometer process is expected to be used in a later generation rather than this MacBook Pro.

A base model may not arrive immediately. The product currently being discussed is a MacBook Pro focused on higher-end chips, and a redesigned base model could be released as early as next spring alongside the M7 chip.

Design changes are also in focus. The new MacBook Pro is expected to be slightly thinner and lighter than current models. With recent generations giving a somewhat thick and heavy impression, attention is on the difference in feel even if the scale of the external change is not large. Bloomberg reported the products will become "significantly lighter" through a redesign of internal components.

The timing is also drawing attention as it intersects with Apple's year-end product schedule. The Power On newsletter said the new MacBook Pro could be released on Nov. 6. Apple could sustain a run of new product releases for four straight weeks, including an iPhone Duo, HomePod mini 2, a new MacBook Pro, and HomeView and Apple TV 4K, it said.

Apple has not officially confirmed a Nov. 6 schedule so far. The outlook is the result of multiple rumors, software signs and expectations about supply plans coming together. Even so, if the MacBook Pro adopts touch support, whether that marks a shift in product strategy will be closely watched as it would signal the start of a change in Apple's long-standing Mac input approach.
