KOSPI ends near flat despite hawkish FOMC as foreigners net sell 2.3 trillion won
South Korea\'s KOSPI ended near flat on Sept. 17 despite a hawkish outcome from the U.S. Federal Open Market Committee and heavy net foreign selling. Chip heavyweights such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell, while some financial shares rose and helped support the index. Foreign investors net sold 2.3 trillion won. The Kosdaq fell, and the won weakened to 1,381.70 per dollar.

Bitcoin miners increasingly exit mining as funds flow into AI and HPC
Bitcoin mining companies are increasingly shutting down mining operations and shifting to AI and high-performance computing infrastructure businesses as mining profitability deteriorates and demand for AI data centres surges. Some listed miners have effectively stopped mining, unwound equipment contracts and sold bitcoin holdings. The shift is reflected in a fall in network hashrate. Large AI and HPC deals have drawn capital, while market valuations diverge between miners with and without such contracts.

Broadcom CEO says inference AI demand will keep rising, keeps 2028 revenue target
Broadcom is keeping its long-term AI semiconductor revenue targets despite calls by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to slow the pace of high-performance AI model development. CEO Hock Tan said a potential slowdown in model development would not shake Broadcom’s outlook, citing strong and durable demand for inference as finished models are used in real products and services. Broadcom has forecast $115 billion in AI chip revenue in fiscal 2027 and $230 billion in fiscal 2028.
