DoorDash received only a few hundred orders through external AI agents in its third-quarter earnings release, TechCrunch reported on Oct. 30 local time.

DoorDash said in a 2025 report that it handles an average of 3,000,000 deliveries a day.

DoorDash CEO Tony Xu (토니 쉬) said in response to an analyst question that agent-based ordering remains an area with a lot of change. "We do not intend to go against the technology trend, but we also must not fall into misconceptions. Orders coming in from some external agents currently total only a few hundred," he said.

He said most users still place orders through the DoorDash app. DoorDash plans to better understand agent use cases and build healthy relationships with external agent developers. He said opportunities could emerge to run advertising inside those agents.

DoorDash also operates its own agents. In June, it launched the 'Ask DoorDash' chatbot for ordering with prompts and photos, and in July it released a command-line interface (CLI) agent. In September, it introduced an agent for ordering by text message. It also disclosed a model context protocol (MCP) so enterprise customers can place orders from other chatbots.
