MSIT to pursue R&D special zone supplementary budget program to support deep-tech startups
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said on April 21 it secured an additional 6 billion won in a 2026 supplementary budget for its R&D Special Zone Promotion program and will push ahead with “5 hubs, 3 special R&D special zones deep-tech support.” The ministry said the program aims to help regional economies recover and stabilize livelihoods. It will support deep-tech start-ups and early-stage companies through commercialization discovery and technology advancement support.

Lee also urged government-led demand creation through public procurement and protection of advanced technology and talent.

South Korea MSIT secures 78.7 billion won supplementary budget for startups, youth and energy transition
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on April 10 parliament approved a 78.7 billion won supplementary budget for projects to support recovery and growth. The ministry said its total budget for this year will rise to 23.83 trillion won. Measures include expanded support for youth tech startups through science and technology institutes and R&D zones, vouchers to help traditional firms buy AI transition solutions from startups, and funding to speed commercialisation of carbon capture and utilisation demonstration facilities.
