China produces photonic chip wafers without ASML equipment, cutting costs to one tenth

China\'s semiconductor equipment company Prinano (PRINANO) said it has succeeded in making photonic chip wafers without ASML\'s deep ultraviolet lithography tools, using its own nanoimprint lithography technology. The company said it produced 8-inch wafers and could cut manufacturing costs to about one-tenth of conventional methods. China forms semiconductor alliance as Alibaba, CXMT join launch of huge fund

Major Chinese technology companies and state-backed investment institutions have launched a 3.91 billion yuan long-term investment fund in response to tighter U.S. technology export controls. The Changzhi Hanhai Private Investment Fund, registered in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area, aims to supply “patient capital” to support research, development and commercialisation in deep-tech fields such as semiconductors. Investors include CXMT-related entities, Alibaba affiliates and AMEC, alongside state-backed funds.

Applied Materials CEO says semiconductor boom has no end in sight, best time in industry history

Applied Materials CEO Gary Dickerson said the semiconductor industry has entered its strongest phase in history, driven by expanding AI demand. He said AI is creating massive computing needs and that the surge is not temporary. Dickerson said customers are competing to build out AI infrastructure, extending equipment order visibility. He said business visibility is unprecedented and discussions already centre on demand in 2027 and 2028.
