South Korea to expand physical AI with AI-RAN; manufacturing trials to start in earnest
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT is applying intelligent base stations, known as AI-RAN, to shipbuilding, petrochemicals and automotive manufacturing sites to test physical AI services. The ministry visited HD Hyundai Samho\'s shipyard in Yeongam to inspect trials under its high-performance AI network programme. KT and SK Telecom-led consortia were selected to build high-performance AI networks at industrial sites and test AI robots and services.

Fed sees AI, data centre investment supporting manufacturing and construction demand
The Federal Reserve assessed that investment in data centres and AI is supporting demand in manufacturing and construction even as the broader U.S. expansion remains weak. In its Beige Book released on Sept. 2, the Fed said economic activity rose slightly through late August while AI-related demand stood out in several regions. Private forecasts from PwC and Morgan Stanley also project large long-term data centre capital spending, with constraints including power availability and rising costs.

42Maru targets Saudi AI market through Kosmes support program
Agentic AI startup 42Maru said on Aug. 31 it will pursue entry into Saudi Arabia and the Middle East and North Africa market through a programme run by the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency. The initiative supports Korean SMEs in building local partnerships in fields such as AI. 42Maru plans to supply its LLM42 model and RAG42 solution via on-premise and private-cloud deployments and to combine agentic AI functions for document review and workflow automation.
