Dell Technologies on Oct. 19 introduced two new rugged laptops for industrial and public safety sites, the Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme and the Dell Pro Rugged 14. The two products have been released in October.
Both products use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors. NPU performance is up to 50 TOPS. Dell designed them to handle AI tasks and data-intensive work in military and police, firefighting, refining and petrochemicals, manufacturing, transportation and utilities sites.
The Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme (PR713260) is a 13.3-inch fully rugged model. It has an IP66 dust and water rating and has undergone a drop test from about 1.8 metres. It is certified to U.S. Department of Defense military standards MIL-STD-810H and electromagnetic interference standard MIL-STD-461G, and operates from minus 29 degrees Celsius to 63 degrees Celsius. The display is a 1,400-nit FHD touchscreen that can be operated while wearing gloves or when wet.
It comes with a 5MP RGB+IR camera as standard. Memory is up to 64GB LPDDR5X, and higher processor configurations use Intel Arc integrated graphics. It can be fitted with up to two hot-swappable batteries that can be replaced without powering off. It also offers removable SSD and self-encrypting drive options.
The Dell Pro Rugged 14 (PR514260) is a semi-rugged model. It weighs about 2.13 kg, has an IP53 rating and passed a drop test from about 0.91 metres. Buyers can choose an optional Nvidia RTX Pro 500 Blackwell (6GB GDDR7) discrete graphics card. Up to 64GB of LPCAMM2 modular memory can be replaced or upgraded directly by IT administrators.
The 14-inch display has a 16:10 aspect ratio and supports up to 1,100 nits of brightness, with a choice of touch or non-touch. The camera supports up to QHD HDR RGB-IR. With the optional quad RF passthrough, mounting it in a vehicle allows direct connection to an external antenna, and it is compatible with third-party vehicle mounts.
Both models support Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, private 5G and an optional dedicated GNSS (GPS) module. Built-in software, the Rugged Control Center, manages GPS settings and hardware shortcut keys.
For security, Dell SafeID and ControlVault protect credentials at the hardware level, and Dell added quantum-resilient protection to its BIOS defense features. Options also include TPM 2.0, fingerprint recognition, a smart card reader and Windows Hello. Dell also said IT administrators can deploy and manage devices at scale through the Dell Management Portal.
