MSIT holds briefing on national R&D administrative reform to introduce \'moving target\'

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT gathered on-site opinions on a proposal to improve administrative rules for national research and development. The package includes introducing a \"moving target\" system that allows research goals to be changed quickly, and aims to raise the efficiency of national R&D by reflecting views from the field. The ministry held a briefing on Sept. 22 at Catholic University attended by researchers from universities, companies and institutes.

South Korea sets AI research ethics guidelines for national R&D, final responsibility rests with researchers

South Korea has set ethical standards researchers must follow when using AI in national research and development, limiting AI to a research tool and placing responsibility and rights for final outputs on researchers. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it finalised the National R&D AI Research Ethics Guide after review and approval by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council’s steering committee. The guide includes seven recommendations and also sets standards for project evaluation and paper review processes.

Government to draw up 2045 national development strategy to respond to AI, demographic change

The Budget Office, the National Economic Advisory Council and the National Science and Technology Advisory Council held a joint seminar in Seoul on Sept. 16 on a mid- to long-term national development strategy for 2045. Participants discussed directions for national development ahead of 2045, including responses to AI, climate and energy transition, demographic change and global supply chain restructuring. Speakers addressed youth entry into the labour market as AI spreads and outlined fiscal and R&D roles.
