U.S. chip industry may face 157,000 worker shortfall by 2030, Samsung deploys Korean staff
The U.S. semiconductor industry could face a workforce shortfall of up to 157,000 people by 2030 as it expands production of AI chips, a forecast said. The supply of engineers and skilled technicians is failing to keep pace with factory buildouts, intensifying competition among major chipmakers. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are temporarily deploying Korean staff for initial operations, while U.S. universities and federal programs expand semiconductor training.

Flitto builds OTalk AI interpretation system at Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Systems shipbuilding sites
Flitto said on Tuesday it has built a customised AI interpretation and translation solution, OTalk, with Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Systems for shipbuilding worksites. The system aims to reduce communication problems caused by jargon, slang and dialects in yards with many foreign workers. It supports seven major languages and improves recognition of site pronunciations, including Gyeongsang dialect accents. Flitto said pilot use by foreign workers reached about 96 percent.

South Korean banks are intensifying competition to attract foreign customers as the number of foreigners staying in the country rises. Banks are expanding services beyond currency exchange and overseas remittances to payroll transfers, savings products, credit loans and wealth management. Major banks have strengthened dedicated products and specialised service networks. The combined number of foreign customers at key banks is estimated at about 7.9 million, with foreign deposit balances topping 27 trillion won.
