Dispute grows over jobs impact of UK AI data centre expansion
Britain is rapidly expanding AI data centres, but the number of permanent jobs created may be far smaller than industry forecasts, an analysis said. Think tank Verdant estimated about 4,400 jobs are directly supported by current data centres and projected about 10,400 direct operating jobs when planned facilities are included, well below techUK estimates. techUK disputed the methodology, while the government said value cannot be judged by jobs per megawatt alone.

Hanwha Systems unveils \'space AI solution\' for first time in Poland
Hanwha Systems has introduced overseas for the first time a technology that uses AI to analyse satellite imagery. The company said it held a launch event for its “space AI solution” at MSPO 2026, Eastern Europe’s largest defence industry exhibition, in Kielce, Poland, on Sept. 9 local time. It demonstrated AI interpreting in real time video of Eastern Europe filmed by an operational satellite. The system integrates imagery collection, AI analysis and decision support.

Apple raises prices of older iPhones by $100 after iPhone 18 Pro unveiling
Apple raised prices of its previous-generation iPhones still on sale by $100 each. The increases apply to the iPhone 16, iPhone 17E, iPhone 17 and iPhone Air sold through Apple’s online store. The iPhone 16 rose to $799, returning to its 2024 launch price after earlier post-iPhone 17 discounts ended. Apple highlighted unchanged pricing for some new products at its event.
