ElevenLabs upgrades AI music generation service, adds vocals and references
AI audio research and development startup ElevenLabs said on July 23 it updated its AI music generation service, ElevenMusic. The update adds References, which lets users set a song’s style and mood using reference audio, and Vocals, which generates original songs using a user’s voice or a voice library. The Styles feature now officially supports the company’s latest AI model, Music v2. ElevenLabs also said uploaded audio and songs must pass strict copyright checks before use.

U.S. Treasury secretary says U.S. could sanction Chinese AI firms if tech theft confirmed, IP probe launched
The United States is investigating whether Chinese open-source artificial intelligence models infringed U.S. intellectual property and warned it could impose sanctions on Chinese AI companies if violations are confirmed. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the U.S. supports open-source AI but not IP infringement. The remarks come amid concern in the United States about the performance and rapid global spread of Chinese models and debate over whether model distillation using competitors’ outputs constitutes IP theft.

Korea to lower public procurement barriers for AI products, support fees for vulnerable groups
South Korea will prioritise AI products and services in public procurement and allow support for AI service fees for vulnerable groups. The science ministry said revisions to an enforcement decree under the AI Basic Act passed a Cabinet meeting on July 14 and will take effect on July 21. Verified AI products will receive procurement benefits from August, including eased contract requirements and scoring incentives. The scope of AI-vulnerable groups eligible for support will expand.
