Samsung Galaxy Watch expands from personal health management to family monitoring tool

Samsung Electronics is expanding the Galaxy Watch’s health management features from individuals to families by adding family profiles to Samsung Health and linking Samsung accounts. Users can selectively share metrics such as steps, sleep, heart rate, blood pressure and blood glucose so relatives can monitor changes and respond. Samsung also highlighted heart-health scoring and sleep-time vital signs tracking, and cited regulatory approvals and cases where alerts prompted medical care.

Apple Watch Series 12 may debut next week with new chip, health upgrades and ceramic option

Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 12 at its Sept. 9 event next week, according to 9to5Mac. The report says the watch may launch alongside the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and feature an upgraded S-series chip, expanded health functions and a ceramic case option. Possible additions include improved high blood pressure alerts and a heart-rate sensor that could collect data continuously throughout the day. Pricing for a ceramic model remains unclear.

AI trained on discarded human skin after surgery finds new cosmetic ingredients, bio startup says

A platform that keeps human skin discarded after surgery alive outside the body for up to a month and uses it to train AI models has been unveiled. Outer Bioscience has built a closed research system combining living human skin data with AI to identify new cosmetic ingredients. The company sources de-identified tissue through biobank networks, tests AI-predicted chemicals on living skin and feeds results back into its models. It focuses on commercialising cosmetic ingredients through safety testing and licensing.
