Johnson & Johnson\'s Ottava surgical robot wins U.S. FDA approval

Johnson & Johnson has secured U.S. marketing approval for its Ottava surgical robot system, marking its official entry into the robotic surgery market. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted approval through the De Novo pathway, allowing use of Ottava in 10 types of general surgery involving the upper abdomen, including gastrectomy and cholecystectomy. The approval may intensify competition in a market long dominated by Intuitive Surgical\'s da Vinci system, alongside Medtronic.
