Codasip begins sale of low-end RISC-V design business, GlobalFoundries seen as top bidder
Chip design company Codasip is starting procedures to sell its low-end RISC-V processor core business used in embedded, automotive and industrial hardware, as it reshapes its business structure. A buyer has not been disclosed, but GlobalFoundries is cited by industry as a leading candidate. The deal also includes broad licensing for Codasip’s Studio development software. Codasip plans to strengthen a security-focused strategy centered on CHERI technology, and expects the transaction to close within about a month.

AI startup Cognichip draws investment to cut chip design time
Efforts to use artificial intelligence to shorten lengthy and costly semiconductor design processes are gaining momentum. Cognichip, which develops AI models for chip design, has raised $60 million in new funding led by Seligman Ventures, with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan participating via his venture fund and joining the board. The company says its approach could cut chip development costs by more than 75 percent and reduce development time by over half, though it has not disclosed chips or customers.

Candu AI raises $225 million, aims to ease AI chip bottlenecks with copper instead of optics
Swiss semiconductor company Candu AI has raised $225 million in a Series A round, The Next Web reported. The round was led by Maverick Silicon, with SoftBank, Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems and Alchip Technologies as strategic investors. Candu AI was valued at $400 million in the round. The company says copper is still viable, claiming its approach can boost link speeds and sharply reduce power use and system costs.
