South Korea sets 2030 moon landing bid with public-private small lander
South Korea aims to secure a 3 percent share of the global aerospace market by 2035 by building a Korean low-Earth-orbit satellite communications network, developing a public-private lunar lander and advancing reusable launch vehicles. The government plans to bring forward its first lunar landing to 2030 by launching a small lunar lander jointly developed with private companies. It also plans to expand policy from R&D to demand creation and broaden support to materials, parts, equipment and satellite data use.

Samsung Electronics and SK Group plan to expand semiconductor production into South Korea\'s southwest region, citing rising AI-driven memory demand. Samsung plans to build four memory fabs in the area, while SK outlined 2,100 trillion won of investment, including 400 trillion won for a new southwest cluster. Executives presented regional investment plans at the presidential office. The government outlined a nationwide semiconductor cluster strategy and detailed power, water and policy support measures.

President Lee Jae Myung chaired a briefing at Cheong Wa Dae on three mega projects and outlined a Korea-style AI industrial push centred on semiconductors, physical AI and AI data centres. He said only speed would ensure survival and pledged large investment in new hubs, including the southwest. Lee said existing sites around Yongin and Pyeongtaek face power and water limits, and vowed stronger government support so companies can invest without losses.
