LG Uplus said on Wednesday it will provide 5 million won raised through its employee-participation donation programme, "Love of 1,000 Won", to a household with a spinal cord disability.
"Love of 1,000 Won" is an employee-participation donation programme launched by LG Uplus in 2016. It operates by letting employees choose a monthly donation amount that is deducted from their wages. The funds are used to support vulnerable groups such as households with disabilities and older people, and this year's cumulative donations total 3.3 billion won.
The latest support was arranged to ease the burden of medical and living expenses for a household with a disability whose economic activity stopped due to a sudden accident. The money will be delivered through the Korea National Council on Social Welfare's online social contribution platform, "Baroit", to the household of A, who lives in Gurye county in South Jeolla province.
Before the accident, A drove a taxi service for people with limited mobility and helped residents who had difficulty getting around. A also took part in community volunteer activities for about 20 years. But after being seriously injured in a fall in February, A has continued surgery, hospitalisation and rehabilitation. Household earned income stopped after A went on long-term leave and A's spouse also quit work to provide care.
Kim Sun-gu (김선구), a manager at LG Uplus' South Jeolla public and corporate customer team, said, "We will continue sharing with employees so that practical support can reach neighbours in need."
