South Korea’s homegrown Nuriho rocket completed its erection on the launch pad a day ahead of its fifth launch attempt, entering final launch preparations.

The Korea Aerospace Administration and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute said erection and fixing work for Nuriho was completed at 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday at the second launch pad of the Naro Space Center in Goheung, South Jeolla Province.

Nuriho departed the Naro Space Center’s assembly building on Tuesday morning on an unmanned special transport vehicle and was moved to the second launch pad over about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

It was then raised vertically using an erection device called an erector and fixed to the launch pad. The lower part of Nuriho is secured by a ground fixing device (VHD) with four rings, and the fixation is released when the engine reaches maximum thrust just before launch.

KARI will carry out launch preparation work on Tuesday afternoon, including umbilical connections and airtightness checks to supply power and propellants to Nuriho. If no abnormalities are found during transport, erection and umbilical connections, installation work on the launch pad will be completed within the day.

The final decision on whether to proceed with the launch and the launch time will be made on Oct. 7, the day of the launch.

The space agency will hold a launch management committee meeting at 8 a.m. on Oct. 7 to decide whether to load propellants into Nuriho. It will then comprehensively review the technical readiness, the possible launch window, weather conditions and the risk of collision with space objects to confirm the final launch time.

If Nuriho launches as scheduled, it will be its fifth attempt at a space flight.
