NIPA, Korea Startup Forum join hands to support growth of AI, ICT startups

The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) said on July 24 it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Startup Forum on July 23 at Maru360 in Seoul to support innovative growth of AI and ICT startups. The two sides will cooperate on infrastructure to provide public resources based on demand, address regulatory hurdles and difficulties in the field, work on policy cooperation reflecting private-sector views, and support global expansion using overseas hubs and networks.

South Korea launches development of security-focused AI foundation model

South Korea will begin developing a domestically built AI foundation model specialised in cybersecurity, aiming to pool public and private capabilities and expand the model as open source to foster an AI-based security ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will accept applications for the project with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency until Aug. 21. One team will be selected and supported with 256 Nvidia B200 GPUs for 10 months.

The evaluation framework relies on metrics proposed by bidders, including targets for user numbers and token use. The ministry plans to pick a company or consortium by September and start a beta by late September, with a nationwide chatbot launch due in December.
