Shinhan Investment Corp tightens investor protection amid popular leverage trading

Shinhan Investment Corp said on Thursday it has strengthened its risk management system to prevent customer losses as leveraged investing expands, focusing on older and novice investors. It overhauled processes from service registration to trade execution and added warning text to HTS, MTS and web loan and margin trading screens. It also updated documents for older investors, will post educational videos for beginners and expanded specialised counselling at branches and a dedicated centre.

Mirae Asset Securities enters Hong Kong digital asset retail business

Mirae Asset Securities said on Tuesday its Hong Kong unit received final approval from the Securities and Futures Commission for a digital asset retail licence uplift. The company plans to open a mobile trading system in June and officially launch digital asset trading services for individual investors in Hong Kong. It aims to provide an integrated investment environment covering stocks, bonds and digital assets, and to offer services allowing Hong Kong clients to invest in South Korean stocks.

RIA account launch draws funds in first week as big firms dominate, raising concerns for smaller brokerages

South Korea’s repatriation investment account (RIA) is attracting funds a week after launch, with sharp differences emerging between large and smaller brokerages. Korea Investment & Securities topped 10,000 subscribers in three trading days, while Samsung Securities reported more than 4,000 accounts and 30 billion won in balances. The product offers temporary tax breaks on gains from overseas stock sales if proceeds are converted to won and reinvested domestically for at least a year.
