Korea broadcast media commission renews licences for 13 terrestrial and community radio stations
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communications Commission approved licence renewals for 13 terrestrial and community radio stations run by 11 operators, including KBS, MBC and OBS. Eight stations that scored at least 700 points in an evaluation received five-year renewals, while five stations that scored 650 to under 700 points were granted four-year terms. The commission said the review considered evaluation results, viewer opinions and views from related agencies.

Broadcast media commission holds emergency broadcast production drill with 8 agencies
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Communication Commission said on Aug. 20 it conducted an emergency broadcast production and transmission drill in Gwangju as part of the 2026 Ulchi exercise. The drill assumed broadcasting facilities were destroyed by an enemy attack and tested procedures to use the Gwangju Citizen Media Center as an alternative production base. Eight agencies, including KBS, local government, police, fire services and the army, took part.

Ahn Hyung-joon takes office as 28th Korea Broadcasters Association chairman
The Korea Broadcasters Association said on Aug. 3 that MBC CEO Ahn Hyung-joon took office on Aug. 1 as its 28th chairman, beginning a two-year term. In his inaugural remarks, Ahn said he would work to establish policy and institutional foundations so terrestrial broadcasters can continue to lead public-interest value and the future of South Korea’s broadcasting. He also pledged to focus on improving outdated and discriminatory regulations and highlighted universal viewing rights.
