Integrated X-Range C15 powertrain system converts EVs to hybrids

Horse Powertrain, a joint venture between Renault and Geely Automobile, unveiled an integrated powertrain system that can convert EVs into hybrids, plug-in hybrids and extended-range EVs while keeping an EV-only platform. InsideEVs reported the company introduced the X-Range C15 Direct Drive, designed to replace a rear electric motor and reduce structural changes and investment. The unit integrates a gasoline engine, transmission and two motors, supports all-wheel drive and can add power electronics options.

U.S. asks Ford, GM if they can boost arms output over EVs

The Trump administration\'s Defense Department is sounding out U.S. automakers on whether they can temporarily defer electric vehicle production plans and increase output of weapons and military supplies. Senior officials discussed the idea with executives including GM CEO Mary Barra and Ford CEO Jim Farley, and also involved GE Aerospace and Oshkosh. The talks are at an early stage. They come as the U.S. EV share of auto sales has fallen since peaking in 2025.

Nvidia builds up autonomous driving alliance

Nvidia, which dominates the AI chip market, is moving more aggressively into autonomous driving. A video of CEO Jensen Huang test-riding a self-driving vehicle has been released, stoking technical rivalry with Tesla. Nvidia has also teamed up with Bolt to target Europe’s robotaxi market. Global automakers including Hyundai Motor, Nissan, Isuzu, BYD and Geely Auto have joined an autonomous driving alliance, expanding an ecosystem centered on Nvidia.
