Volvo will launch 13 new models by 2030 in a large-scale expansion of its product lineup.

InsideEVs reported on Sept. 17 that Volvo plans to deploy 7 models for the United States and Europe and 6 models exclusively for China, reshaping its lineup around electric vehicles and third-generation hybrids.

The plan comes amid a trend of declining sales in the first half of this year. Volvo's global sales fell 11 percent year on year in the first quarter and declined 5.6 percent in the second quarter. The company set a goal of doubling market share through new model launches and raising its EBIT margin before depreciation from about 3.5 percent in 2025 to more than 8 percent.

New models for Western markets will be based on the SPA2 or SPA3 platform. SPA2 was applied to the EX90 SUV and the ES90 sedan, while SPA3 will be used for the new EX60 crossover. Both platforms support 800-volt batteries and ultra-fast charging. These vehicles are also set to be equipped with Volvo's "Huginn Core" computing platform.

Given that SPA2 and SPA3 have so far been used exclusively for EVs, new models for the United States and Europe are likely to focus on EVs in effect. The outlet also reported that Volvo is reviewing a plan to bring an electric sedan and wagon to the U.S. market as early as 2028. Those models could carry the S60 and V70 badges, and a new EX50 crossover could also be added to the lineup.

The strategy for the China market was drawn up separately. The 6 China-bound models will use a platform developed by Geely and apply a China-only technology stack. Volvo and Geely plan to cut costs by sharing parts and supply chains. The approach is to dual-track product structures to match regional demand and regulations, as well as price competition.

Volvo Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson (하칸 사무엘손) said the company's showrooms will look very different by 2030 and described the product range as the strongest new-model pipeline ever, tailored to demand by region. He also stressed that the plan reflects a commitment to become a leading premium car brand.

Sales methods will also change. Volvo plans to make pricing more transparent, simplify product configurations and operate dedicated specifications that enable faster delivery. It will also provide regular over-the-air software updates, as SPA2 and SPA3 have a software-centric structure.

Volvo must complete this lineup shift within the next 4 years. With EVs and hybrids, region-by-region platform separation, and supply-chain sharing for cost reduction being pursued at once, the actual launch schedule and regional model mix are expected to emerge as key variables that will determine market performance.
