South Korean lawmakers criticised the country’s three telecom carriers over what they called insufficient investment in fibre-optic networks after a survey showed Korea’s fixed broadband download speed ranked 22nd globally. Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Yeon-hee cited results from internet speed measurement firm Ookla. The science ministry said it agreed on the need to expand investment but raised questions about the reliability of the overseas private survey and said it would encourage operators to invest more.
