[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] China's memory chipmaker CXMT is pushing to mass-produce LPDDR6 memory chips, WCCFTech reported on Friday, citing Chinese local media.

The report came days after news that SK Hynix plans to start mass production of LPDDR6 in the second half of 2026. LPDDR6 is expected to play a key role in the AI race, and SK Hynix disclosed detailed specifications for its LPDDR6 modules in March this year.

Chinese media reports said CXMT's DDR6 memory chips have completed a research and development (R&D) verification stage, moving a step closer to mass production. R&D verification follows single-chip verification and takes place ahead of small-batch production verification and mass production. If CXMT has completed R&D verification, the next step is to move to a small-batch production verification stage to tune mass-production equipment.

A report by Pandaily also mentioned specifications for CXMT's LPDDR6 chips. The initial chips have a design speed of 12,800 Mbps (12.8 Gbps) and a base speed of 10,667 Mbps (10.7 Gbps).

CXMT has also drawn attention from reports that Apple is looking to source memory from the company, beyond competitive dynamics in the memory market. Multiple sources and media outlets said Apple wants to buy CXMT memory to ease supply chain burdens and use it in products sold in China and Asia.
