South Korea launches \'4 hubs, 3 special regions\' autonomous R&D plan, to invest 78.9 billion won in 7 zones
South Korea will shift its regional research and development system from a central government and province-led model to a zone-based, locally autonomous approach. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it launched the \'4 hubs, 3 special regions\' programme at KAIST on Wednesday and will push projects in seven zones. It will invest a total of 78.9 billion won this year and expand support after 2027.

Standard Energy introduces VIB ESS technology to EU delegation
Standard Energy said European commercial and embassy officials in South Korea visited its Daejeon site on Sept. 9 as part of an innovation partnership event hosted by the Innopolis Foundation. About 20 participants from the EU delegation and the French and German embassies toured a VIB ESS demonstration site at KAIST Munji Campus and the company’s automated production line. The visit focused on VIB’s safety features, high output and commercialization progress.

MSIT seeks new high-performance computing centres to meet GPU demand
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Wednesday it will designate additional specialised high-performance computing centres by sector. The ministry previously named seven institutions as specialised centres in 2022. It is moving to add more centres as demand for large-scale GPU-based computing resources rises alongside deeper integration of science, technology and AI. Applications are open until Oct. 12, with final selections in December and two-year operations beginning in January.
